WE WON!!!!!

RAGE AGAINST THE CANTEEN COMES OUT ON TOP!!

A huge congratulations to our parent band, Rage Against the Canteen, who competed at the Inner East finals of the Parent Battle of the Bands competition last night 鈥� and WON!

What a rollicking night it was and thank you to all the amazing RPS community members who came down to rock on and help them reach glory!

This win means the band move onto the Inner-City Finals held even closer than last night at the Corner Hotel on Thursday September 10th. There they will be competing against parent bands from St Kilda Primary, Port Melbourne Primary and others.

ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

Well done to our amazing Grade 6 fundraisers who organised and ran our 2026 Ice Bucket Challenge. I know there were some VERY cold teachers and students this afternoon. Thanks to all those who donated, we raised over $400 for the FIGHTMND cause!

Costuming Update

Please find below the costume details for our upcoming whole-school production, Unless. We understand that every family鈥檚 circumstances are different, and that sourcing particular costume items may not always be easy. If any families need support with sourcing costumes, please don鈥檛 hesitate to let Izzy or Kath know. Susan McLean is Australia’s foremost expert in cybersafety and young people. Her unparalleled knowledge leaves audiences shocked at the reality of the online world. It is a wake-up call to even the most switched-on parent and is delivered with Susan’s famous ‘no nonsense’ approach.

The session will cover the positive benefits of technology as well as what parents need to be aware of. Susan’s book, “Sexts, Texts and & Selfies” has been talked about in our RPS chatter a number of times, and we are very excited and privileged to be able to invite the RPS community to a parent session with Susan.

In Week 6 & 7 we will be conducting student led conferences. These will be on聽Wednesday 19th August for Foundation 鈥� Grade 2 and Grade 5/6 and on Wednesday August 26th for Grade 3/4 and Specialists. Both afternoons will run from 12:00pm 鈥� 5:30pm. Conferences will be 12 minutes in duration. All conferences will be at school in your child’s learning space.

Student led conferences provide a forum to develop a student agency for students, parents and teachers to acknowledge student progress and achievement. 聽Developing student agency is an important goal for our students and one that we highly value in their development as a learner.
Student led conference are a valuable avenue for involving families and students in the learning process and helping families understand the teaching, learning, assessment and reporting process. It鈥檚 an opportunity to celebrate the student鈥檚 achievements.

Professor Hattie, the Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute, University of Melbourne identifies 鈥渟tudent self-reporting as the most significant indicator linked to raised student achievement.鈥� At 糖心logo入口 Primary, we also know that it encourages students to reflect on their learning and promotes the articulation of student thinking.

Student led conferences are an opportunity to strengthen communication channels with parents about student鈥檚 learning and progress. It critically involves students in self-assessment and allows them to take responsibility for their own learning as they work toward and achieve curriculum outcomes

Students take responsibility for leading the conference and will discuss and reflect on the samples of work they have chosen including what they have learned, how they learn and how they are progressing. Students will identify strengths and areas for improvement. During the process parents and the teacher are encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback and encourage the student and to share their thoughts and ideas on what is being presented.

Students鈥� teachers and families will also discuss future learning goals and next steps to improve learning. We therefore ask all students to be in attendance for this conference.

If the teacher, or parent, wishes to discuss an issue without the student being present then we ask that another appointment be made on an alternative day.
